Lee Miller was Man Ray’s adored muse, studio assistant, lover, and friend - also an artist in her own right. She hid away her own personal photographic images in her farmhouse attic, which on her death were discovered and published.
This portrait of Lee Miller was taken by Man Ray in 1929. Together with Ray, she rediscovered the photographic technique of solarisation, a happy accident that involved a mouse running over her foot, causing her to switch on the light in mid-development. The technique became a distinctive visual signature for the couple.
I love this portrait & Lee’s look - taken over 90 years ago, but as timeless as it is elegant. ...
