Hostel job myths
After crazy 4 years working in the hostels. I can easily Tell you what made me cry, angry and not really pleasant. Working in a Hostel is really hard job, its not only what you can See but also so many things that are happening behind. I've found couple myths that people believe about the hostel reception job:
▪️"you don't have any stress in your work" - oh well people are stressful more than they think. Working in a Hostel is a BIG Time about reviews so you need to be smiling even though you have so much stress behind
▪️"so you didnt study anything?" - i have masters in biochemistry, im certificated beauty therapist. And i did one year of biophysics. Some of us work in a Hostel Because we love it. Don't be rude..
▪️"when you Will find real job?" - last 2 years of working in a Hostel it was my real, adult job. I was earning money and I was conecting my future with hostels (it has changed, but it changed Because of other reasons)
▪️"you Just chill and drink at work" - ehh i think its hard to believe but some people are not Just party ing and they are actually doing things..
▪️"you're so sociable, you can't be shy" - 😂 thats my favourite. My job was one thing, i was the most bubbly, sociable and funny girl in the world. On the other side in my private life i have no idea how to make friends, how to talk with people. To be honest I'm also person who doesnt like spend Time with people. Working in a hostels was my kind of therapy
▪️"everyone can work in the hostel" - NO! You cant be Just funny and sociable to work as a Hostel reception, especially in a party Hostel!
▪️"you don't have any responsibility in work. Its great!" - if something will happen on my shift then I'm taking the responsibility. I was already a detective, as there were things destroyed during night, things were stolen, things were lost, someone had epilepsy attack in the evening and many more..
Please to all of you who came to that moment - remeber that you should have respect to every person, no matter where the person is working.
