I wanted to test my discipline and make a better lifestyle change, so I decided: to only buy out and snack on junk once a week, and cut out any other kinds of drinks besides herbal tea and water. As I have been working on this over the last couple of weeks, I noticed where my bad patterns lay LOL.
Part of being accountable and consistent on new routines is challenging your previously set behaviours…so I noticed whenever I felt like I was having an emotional day, I would yearn to eat some chocolate in bed because it was my source of comfort. Now I am not saying this is entirely wrong, because somedays you need to just open up that turtles wrapper and go to town!!! But I realized that it is not sustainable for myself to continue doing that every time my emotions faltered.
I also realized that I am someone who needs to be completely consistent because I have not yet learned how to balance it out and still remain in control. An example of this: if I eat a piece of chocolate, I then think…well, I am already here, what’s the harm and then eat more and more. Then the next day I start craving it because of how good it was the day before…and bam, my routine is done. I’m sure I’m not the only one....🤫
I am also someone who works well with substituting a bad habit with a good one. Where I would normally eat unhealthy, I now have a rotation of healthier snack alternatives that keep me busy and satisfied.
I think part of successful routine building is being *honest and observant* of where your strengths and weaknesses are. It is extremely important to find out what works best for you. Like some people are okay with dipping back and forth with their consistency, some people work better with cold turkey, some people have to have schedules and rewards.
Good luck to those working on goals or starting them, and dm if you want help in sorting out how to work on building routine and self discipline 🍫😜
